The Valentine One Radar Detector is, in my opinion, the only choice when considering a radar detector. Other than initial purchase and performance, people often discount the fact that radar technology will change (laser front and rear in the past, perhaps Ku or more in the future) and peoples’ needs as far as radar detection goes may deviate. The Valentine 1 unit is the only one I know that even deals with any of this.

I ordered my first one when I was 15 years old (after saving for quite some time) to guarantee it arrived by my 16th birthday (you can tell I was going to get into trouble). The Valentine One Radar Detector is extremely simple to use and read as well. The display is very easy, it illustrates (and sounds differently) based on the type of radar attacking you, there is a volume knob with mute control, and the arrows tell you in which direction the signal is coming from. You will know if you are approaching up on the officer, or if he is coming from behind you, or even if he is on the side of you. There is also a “bogey counter” which tells apart you how many signals it is picking up. No Matter of the count on the bogey counter, direction, and type of radar, I usually just slow down when it’s time.

The Valentine 1 (V1) comes with an upgrade program, so when rear laser gunning became a predominant form of speed control, Valentine 1 developed it in their new detectors. I was able to simply send my detector back for an upgrade. This upgrade program alleviates the worry of obsolescence of new detectors.

However, remember . . . even with a Radar Detector, if the officer turns his radar on after he sees you (commonly referred to as “Instant On”), nothing can save you.
